Only Child = Unintended Child in The Family

A lot of people tend to think that ONLY CHILD is always being pampered by their family. Actually, there are Only Child who are actually unintended child in the family. The parents "created" the child accidentally due to failure of proper planning when having sex. That is why, there is no siblings, because the parents do not want a child at all.
The child will grow up being treated as unwanted even if the parents take care of them. Taking care of them is like having no choice and having to be responsible instead of showing love to the child.
The situation will be even worse when the parents relationship turns sour. The child will be always blamed by the parents. "If not because of you, we won't get married", "If not because of you, I would not want to be with your father/mother".
Actually, it is causing the child pain. In a long-run the child will feel guilty. Then fell useless. This will cause the child to turn into depression and will leads to suicidal thoughts.
Adults must accept responsibility for their own actions, and if they are not ready to have a child, they should try to control their sexual desire or engage in safe sex. Don't cause a human being to be born and suffer throughout their childhood.

A Case Study: Misuse of Technology and Grey Areas of Employment Act, 1955 (Malaysia's Labor Law) by Superiors/Companies

In the recent, as I had mentioned before in my previous posts, there are pros and cons in terms of technological advancements. In every workplace nowadays, there are WhatsApp groups while at work. Superiors will use this WhatsApp group to ask their subordinates to do certain tasks, especially for them, it is useful after office hours because they still can contact their subordinates at anytime and anywhere that they want.

Malaysia has Labor Law that protect employees in terms of working hours, holidays, overtime, wages, and other benefits. Unfortunately, there are certain grey areas in which these superiors can seek to avoid being sued.

The latest case study of the situation share to me by Person A (this is just one of it and Person A faced same situations for many times, especially during weekend) is as follows:-
This week is a long holiday due to the Deepavali Festival as this festive season falls on Monday. However, the Person A's superior , send the task in the WhatsApp group on Saturday.
In order not to go against the law and avoid being sued, this superior did not instruct Person A to do the tasks. However, this Task is required to be submitted on Tuesday morning.
Firstly, the superior is practicing an inconsiderate leadership style, failed to plan and could not manage the schedule properly. Based on this case study from Person A, the task had been started since last week and it is the superior itself that keeps on changing the contents many times, which has caused Person A have to do repeated job in carrying out the job. Each time the content changes, Person A gets to redo the parts.
Secondly, the superior gave a timeframe which is unreasonable. The task had to be submitted on Tuesday morning, which is the next working day. So, the Person A has to complete the job before that which means, during the weekend and the public holiday, Person A is required to do the work. This is the grey area of labor law. The superior did not break the law because the superior did not force the subordinate to work during weekends and public holidays. On the other hand, the superior gave an unreasonable timeframe.
It is not easy for Person A to sue the company because the company did not force the person to work. The unreasonable timeframe is too subjective to be brought to the court because, in the end, the company will have a lot of reasons to defend and mention that Person A unable to complete the tasks accordingly instead of reviewing the timeframe.
Person A had to request for overtime while doing the task during the weekend and public holiday instead of Person A's superior plan for the timeframe properly and follow the law for the overtime claim. And the overtime rate in this company had the maximum rate. For instance, if the max per day is RM45, then even if you work for 12 hours plus, it is still RM45.

Consequences of Lack of Work-Life Balance
This kind of practice in the company has affected the psychological well-being of employees. Those who are working, did not have proper time to really relax their minds, and their minds kept on thinking about their work and incoming messages in their company groups or emails.
Moreover, it had affected the well-being brought up in the family. Parents do not have proper time to educate and form their children's character in a healthy ways because most of the time is being utilised for work purposes. When children are brought up in an unhealthy environment with a lack of communication with their parents, this will affect their well-being and positive characteristics formation. In the long-run, this situation will affect the country's productivity as the future generations were not brought up in a healthy way during their childhood.

Recommendation
It is very difficult for employees to go against it. This is because a job is the source of income, and employees dare not offend their superiors and boss. Thus, the government should consider looking into these arising situations and amending the Labor Law that seeks to protect employees so that they have the right to rest and have their personal time.

A Case Study : Misuse of Managerial Level Empowerment in Workplace

As case study from one of my family members who is working in an Educational Institution which emphasize on Management, even in their branding.

Lately, out of the sudden, there is a new policy in his department that, all staff cannot clear the annual leave until the end of the important event. Due to some issues that my family member need to settle, he got to apply for annual leave. Unfortunately, it was rejected by his manager.

However, this case was handle ineffectively by his manager as follows:-
1. He was not being assigned with any responsibilities in related to the important event.
2. When further ask, the manager is unclear with what are suppose to be done for the event. The manager only replied "Not at this moment".
3. There are other staff whose annual leave was approved even though part of them are in progress of some of the task in related to this upcoming event.

In reviewing this case study:-
1. The manager manage the manpower ineffectively and less productive. There are manpower and the manager failed to fully utilize the resources of the manpower. This will caused wastage of manpower.
2. There are mismanagement and the new policy should only apply to those who are being assigned with the responsibilities. However, those who are involved, their annual leave were being approved. This is due to overly empower a person in the company of higher ranking to make the ultimate decision without proper check and balance.
3. The event is around the corner and as a manager, this manager has failed to set-up a proper organising committee to organise the event.
4. The manager failed to communicate properly and make it clear to all subordinate what are their responsibilities. This will caused communication breakdown between the manager and subordinate.

What is Teamwork in a Company?

A lot of people, especially those at the decision maker level (Managerial Leadership). They view teamwork as being a Yes-Man to the top. Often there comes into scenarios whereby if anyone disagree and explain on their disagreement, this person will be view as someone who are without teamwork and trying to go against the whole team. This is totally a wrong perception and rather it is a dictatorship.

There are certain criteria that are required to practice in Teamwork.
1. The members should brainstorm the pros and cons of the issues.
2. From time to time to conduct assessments on the progress for further improvements and encourage all members to participate in the brainstorm and provide concrete suggestions.
3. The Top Position (Managerial Leader) is required to has the abilities to identify his/her team members' strength and weaknesses so can put the right person at the right positions and tasks.
4. At the end of the task, all team members to conduct evaluation the results for future reference and improvements.
5. The leader and team members have to create a sense of belongings feelings among all.

There are few steps for decision making and not based on the feelings and ultimate power from One Person who is holding the Top Position.

One of the effective ways is to apply the Rational Model (Uzonwanne, 2016) which includes the followings steps: -
1. Identifying the problem that requires a solution
2. Identifying the solution scenario
3. Carrying out a gap analysis
4. Gathering facts, options, and alternatives
5. Analysing option outcomes
6. Selecting best possible options
7. Implementing decision for solution and evaluate final outcome

Situational Leadership or practicing the other way round?

Situational Leadership is a leadership style that is flexible and leaders are able to switch between dictator/task oriented to democratic/employee oriented leader according to the changes of situations or via verse. It is more focused on the behaviors that a leader should adapt based on followers' behaviour. For this leadership style, is to adapt the best leadership style which is suitable for the situation and the followers respectively in order to achieve the objectives whether in a team and others.

I personally, if I am a leader, I will use this leadership style and in the CORRECT WAY.

UNFORTUNATELY, there are so called leaders, adapt this kind of style but practice in a different ways. How would it be? Where normally, we called this kind of situation like playing politics and those who are working usually face the "office politics" culture.

SO, certain so called "leader" adapt different leadership style based on:-

1. See Who Is Behind The Back-Up Of The Particular Person

Whether in any situation, there are lucky person they are favor by the boss or someone higher ranking than the so called "leader" or their family members are someone important to the organization/company or is well-known in the community. So, those followers with backup, they enjoy doing whatever things that they want, they can complain and then the so called "leader" will be one-sided. So, instead of the so called "leader" lead the team or what so ever, these people took the advantages to conquer. Hence, the so called "leader", they are just a "doll" to be place there. Worst is that, those without backup are the victims of being bullied, accused and item to sacrifice when there are problem. Victims can choose to exit the team but what if it is in work? These victims need to earn for the living and support their family, so no choice got to face it.

So , to those who have backup behind, this so called "leader" use Theory Y which the so called "leader" can go beyond it, like as if freaking practice positive view of human nature but actually, all about self-interest.

Then those without backup as Theory X whereby heightened supervision and penalties. Surpassingly there is practice of  external rewards in this Theory X, but in these kind of so called "leader" attitude,  don't hope they will practice it.

They just create in the situation that they are leader but actually, just want to protect those with backup by hock of crock, because in the end, they hope that those with backup could give them benefits.

Therefore, those who have backup, you are lucky and those who are standalone, what I would say that May God Bless and Protect You.

2. Personal Problem

It's normal for human to have emotional whether the emotion is good or bad/breakdown. However, this kind of so called "leader", when they are facing mental stress, they don't know how to manage it properly. Actually in Malaysia, there are a lot of counseling centres that provide professional guidance for those who are facing mental issues. Such as : -

(a) Befrienders : sam@befrienders.org.my / 03-76272929 ( https://www.befrienders.org.my/contact )
(b) Talian Kasih : 15999

If anyone need mental support, please approach the right place.

UNFORTUNATELY, these people does not want to approach them but use those other as Punching bag. So they will change to Autocratic Leadership

Autocratic Leadership style is about the leader control all of the decision and seldom get feedback and input from followers/team. Surpassingly, it does have the benefits if the leader is confident and experienced enough to take over control, then to be more focus and strict in handling certain followers who have "don't care much" attitude.

The so called "leader" use this kind of style to redirect their negative emotion from themselves to other source. It ended up Displacement. This so called "leader" transfer their negative emotion to those they think they are weaker than them. In another word, transfer to those they think they are easier to be bullied. OF COURSE, this so called "leader" is still conscious, they don't dare to displace on those with backup (as mentioned above).

Leader, this position sounded great, but how many can be a successful leader who are really practice proper leadership skill by putting their feelings and self-interest aside? In our life, we can find good leaders but also we will come across with those so called "leader". Just only they are been in the organization/company long enough and get promoted or very good in getting supports from those well-known and with backup, they are appointed as leader.

3. Based On The How Strong Of The Other Team

This happen usually while dealing with the external team. In a organization/company, there are different departments and division which formed in order for them to be more focus on their particular roles to achieve the objectives. At certain projects, even though they work separately in a department of division, they have to collaborate and work together. So this kind of so called "leader" another attitude appear. They look at how strong are the other team, and they practice Double Standard.

If that team is weak, the this so called "leader" will not provide much teamwork and attention and in another way round, going on their own way for them to stay in their own comfort zone and not to take any responsible.

If that team is freaking strong and important to the organization/company, well.. this kind of so called "leader" will practice Yes Man. Even though shouldn't be that they, this so called "leader" will still Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes.

Moral of this issues, if you have your own team, make your team strong so that others dare not to bully your team. If not, your team will ended up being oppressed and look down by others.

If we are the Boss or someone have the right the decide who is the next leader, we have to be very conscious with those that we want to promote them. Cannot be only depends on the service period. Even if they did something successful in the past, don't forget, nobody can be one man show. There are a lot unsung heroes that make it successful. Also, be clear whether these people, did they play tricks to gain your trust? Don't be easily trust words from people without thinking it deeper and logically. If you as boss promote a wrong leader, your whole organization/company, one day will be GONE CASE. Those sincere members/staff will leave one by one because they cannot stand the attitude of the so called "leader". Then left are those with hidden agenda and not sincere.

Is a Leader with the Sense of Humanity is Good or Bad?

It is good to be a leader who have the sense of Humanity instead of Authoritarian. However, it is such a disadvantages if your followers started to take you for granted.

There are leaders who try to calm down their followers when there are arguments and disagreement in between them. They are acting just like "pain killer". When someone is having headache, the person is given pain killer so that the person will feel the pain. But what is the root cause? Is the issues solved and will not repeat?

This is like those leaders who are following this kind of "leadership" style. They will start telling all sorts of teambuilding theories (as it others don't know about it) such as working as team, work in a harmony way, forgive each other and don't take things too seriously into the heart. However, this does not solve the issues. The bad attitude of the followers is still there and things crisis will be just repeating and after the crisis, same old traditional "leadership style" from this leader will be applied.

So, another issues arise is that, there will be 2 groups. One who are continuously being drag to the crisis and the other is the Troublemaker continuously living in the comfort zone and take things for granted. So, usually the good followers will distance away, one by one as they started to disrespect this kind of leaders and feel uncomfortable living in the situation full of dirty tricks.

If a person wish to act overly humanity, it would be better this person to be involved with all those social and welfare works to help and contribute the society instead of being a Leader that needs to manage various type of different attitude human. There are certain human, need to treat them in a harsh ways because they are totally cannot be assume as human.

Instead of being a leader, this kind of people are making the team and situation getting worse.

Let's Face the Pandemic Together

We live in a life full of challenges. Especially during the current pandemic that strikes us. It is tiring at times, and I do have the feeling that I should rest. But, when I look at those who faced the situation even worse than me, I tell myself that I shouldn't give up in my life so easily.

Since everyone is facing challenges , different challenges, it is time for us to support each another to overcome the challenges and also the current pandemic situations

It is not always rich people who only can provide support. A lot of support does not need money. Moral support, mental support.... these just are just an act and not money. Sometimes, we just keep silent and listen to people to express their stress and problems that they are facing, we can help them to feel more comfortable after they speak out. Also, we can keep silent and not to easily get over emotional and throw temper is also one of the ways to support each other.
Due to stress, people started to throw their temper at home and even in work. All these can cause another mental distress to the 3rd party, the person who was targeted by the other person to throw their temper. This will cause a lot of misunderstanding and a breakdown of the relationship. So, let's support each other by just listening to others in telling out their problems.
